Biofeedback

27592606_sBiofeedback simply means getting information about your body through a measuring device in order to assess for change. Our clinic uses Electromyography (EMG) and thermal biofeedback.

Biofeedback is employed with relaxation training. It is trying to assist the body to relax in a certain way to reduce certain medical symptoms.

EMG biofeedback – designed to measure the tension of a muscle by measuring surface electrical output in the form of microvolts. There are no needles and this is not painful. The goal is to train the body to relax specific muscle groups by obtaining direct feedback on muscle tension. EMG biofeedback is effective with chronic pain, headache, and TMJ disorders.

Thermal biofeedback – designed to measure the peripheral blood flow by assessing finger-tip temperature. The goal is to increase the finger-tip temperature which is an indication of increased blood flow and relaxation. Thermal biofeedback is useful in migraine headaches, Raynaud’s,  CRPS/RSD, and anxiety.
